Neuro surgery

Neurosurgery is a super speciality that deals with all kinds of neurological problems which may require some non-Invasive procedures. We are having a full team of Neurosurgeons, Neuro-Radiologists, Neuro-Anaesthetists, Neuro-Intensivists and Neuro-Physiotherapists who work together as a single entity at all times, because our patients’ health is our priority!

We are well-equipped with all the modern & advanced equipment and instruments required in any Standard Neurosurgical Centres. We have dedicated a Neurosurgical Operating Suite with the best-in-class instruments for Endoscopic and Microscopic Neurosurgery; also, a complete team involving trained Nurses and Technicians to handle any complications if occurs.

We provide the best comfort and care to all kind of Emergency Neurosurgery. For patients, it means that any of the following emergency clinical conditions will attract complete care and urgent attention by our team at any time:

  •  Head Injury
  •  Spine Injury
  • Brain Tumours
  •  Brain Haemorrhage
  •  Severe Headache
  • Sudden weakness of Hands/Legs
  •  Severe Backache

Also, we routinely deal with

  •  Endoscopic Spine Surgery
  •  Endoscopic Brain Surgery for Hydrocephalus
  • Brain Tumours
  •  Spine Tumours
  •  Pituitary Tumours
  • Spondylosis, Back aches, Neck aches (degenerative spine)
  •  Spine Fractures
  •  Disc Diseases
  •  Brain and spine deformities in infant and child
  • Headaches
  •  Aneurysms clipping/coiling
  •  Spasticity of Limbs
  • Neuralgias and Neuropathy
  •  Movement Disorders
  •  Peripheral Nerve Surgeries
  • Epilepsy Surgery
  •  Stereotactic Surgery

Brain and Spine Tumours

All brain tumours are not cancers. Therefore, it requires a good evaluation of a patient to decide complete management. we have 1.5T MRI, 124 slice CT, PET scan, SPECT and Gamma camera. A team of Neurosurgeons, Radiologists, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists and Pathologists who decide complete management protocol on case to case basis. Benign tumours like meningioma, schwannoma, neurofibroma, pilo-astrocytoma, etc., require only complete excision of tumours for cure.

For rehabilitation, a separate team of Physiotherapists are available with expertise of Behavioural therapy and psychological assessment.

Aneurysms

Aneurysmal bleeding in brain has high mortality and morbidity. It requires highly skilled operating hands and sharp clinical acumen of a Neurosurgeon to treat aneurysm ruptures. If treated properly such patients become as normal as before. we have all modern facilities for clipping and coiling of ruptured/un-ruptured aneurysms.

Backache

It is a very common problem nowadays. Earlier it only used to be a common problem of people in the age group of 50s and older, but it is more common in young population now. Lifestyle changes have been attributed amongst other known risk factors. This age group is economically most productive. So not going to work is a severe economic loss to individuals and society as a whole. In the long run patients suffer from depression, emotional and other psychological problems.

Backaches are being treated rather partially by Family Physicians, Physicians, General Surgeons, Orthopaedicians, Neurologists, Anaesthetists, Pain Clinic Physicians, Physiotherapists, Homeopathic, Ayurvedic, Unani Physicians and others. In all modalities, there is some improvement initially which is a happy phase for the patient. If complete bio-physics of the patient’s spine is not studied in conjunction with body’s physical make-up and lifestyle; he is going to deteriorate sooner or later.

Therefore, such patients must visit a Neurosurgeon who operates spine. we take unanimous decisions with a supportive team approach and are well-equipped to deal with complex spinal problems.

Most of the cases actually do not require any surgery or injection therapy. If required at all, we do an Endoscopic Spine surgery which is beneficial for both back and neck. It is done by a very small incision and the patient can go home the same evening and return to their work within a week. A patient need not come back for stitches removal as none is put into the skin. Similarly, different forms of Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis and Spine fractures require different approaches.

Functional Neurosurgery

Refractory Limb Spasticity, Refractory Parkinsonism, Intractable Pain, Intractable Seizures may improve by electric stimulation of different areas of nervous system. We put Deep Brain Stimulators with high precision in Parkinson’s disease and OCD’s. Excellent results are seen with skilled team of Neurosurgeons and Neuro-Physiotherapists.

Peripheral Nerve Surgeries

Peripheral nerves are sometimes involved due to metabolic diseases or traumas, in this affected limb do not function properly and may have intractable neuropathic pain. Microsurgical decompression or nerve transfer surgeries help such patients and have appropriate functional outcomes.

Head and Spine Injury

Road Traffic accidents on highways and expressways are high velocity polytrauma, in which head and spine suffer the most. It is the young population who are the main sufferers. The losses of such incidents have a huge impact especially economically on family and society. Very important is the timing and critical decisions to be considered during early phase of such head and spine injuries. If intervened on time, even serious head injuries do survive! We at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute provide a very standard approach on war footing for such an emergency.

Brain Haemorrhage and stroke

Brain Haemorrhages and other forms of Brain attack require aggressive team work of Neurosurgeons, Neurologists and Neuro-Intensivists. Large Intracerebral Bleeding requires lifesaving surgical evacuation. Large Infarcts (area of brain with no vascular supply) require lifesaving DE compressive Craniotomy
